Tomoya Noda, Nikon Fellow

Solving imaging issues by thorough examination of optics and metrology.

Mr. Tomoya Noda, who joined Nikon in 1992, was originally assigned to the former Optical R&D Department, where he worked on the technological development of projection lenses for IC steppers and scanners. He subsequently participated as a researcher in a project at the former Research Development Corporation of Japan (JRDC, now the Japan Science and Technology Agency), for which he developed the world's first laser-scanning optical CT microscope. After returning to Nikon, he developed revolutionary inspection equipment for projection lenses, largely contributing to increased productivity of their manufacture and design.
He became a Nikon Fellow at the young age of 48 in 2012. As of 2013, taking full advantage of his overall knowledge of optical technologies employed by the Nikon Group, he is actively involved in the company as a Fellow Executive Department Staff, Optical Research Laboratory, Research & Development Headquarters, Core Technology Center. He is also widely recognized in the industry and academia, as well as at Nikon, for his deep understanding of optical science.
