1. LCDs getting larger and displaying higher definition images
LCDs that take advantage of liquid crystals that are midway between a liquid and a solid state are used in a wide range of devices such as flatscreen TVs, personal computers, digital cameras, video game consoles, mobile phones, and car navigation systems. In our daily lives we obtain a great deal of information through LCDs; they make everyday living increasingly convenient.
LCD screens are made up of tiny dots called pixels (picture elements), and the brightness of these pixels are adjusted to produce picture images. A single pixel comprises three colors—red, green, and blue—and each color has switches that pass light through the plate.
