Message from the General Manager

Founded in 1917, Nikon has nearly 100 years of experience working with optical materials and optics. These optical materials were originally developed only for use in Nikon's internal applications and products. It was not until 2003 that Nikon Glass Division was established to provide our materials and services to the worldwide market. This allowed us to share the value of our unique technology based on years of research and development. Nikon Glass Division offers a complete line of synthetic silica glass, calcium fluoride materials, as well as optical component processing, analysis and measurement services. In 2010, we added a full line of optical materials by strengthening our partnership with Nikon group company "Hikari Glass," adding its expertise in optical glass development and manufacturing to our existing product line. As we move toward a future of ever more demanding applications, we continue to strive to improve our products and services so they meet the ever increasing requirements of our customers.

Glass has been manufactured since the time of ancient Egypt. As such, I feel it is one material that is intimately connected with human beings. Over the centuries, Japan has developed advanced technology in this field. I believe this is because glasswork suits the fundamental Japanese passion for detail and precision. Many people believe that we have reached the outer limits of glass technology. However, if we are to go beyond these limits, I believe it will be the Japanese, and Nikon, that will make it happen. This is because Nikon is highly attuned to market demand, which calls for high precision and high performance. Nikon is driven by research and development of leading-edge products, such as digital cameras, IC and LCD steppers.

Nikon makes no compromises when it comes to product quality and precision. By utilizing our accumulated technologies, human resources and facilities, we are able to realize the full potential of glass. We always put ourselves in the shoes of our customers and develop our products to meet and even exceed their demands. Our mission at Nikon Glass Division is to always strive for perfection.
