Introduction to Digiscoping
STEP.1 What is the Nikon Digiscoping System all about?
The Mechanism of the Digiscoping System
This system employs a "collimate shooting method," which means that the digital camera is set just behind the Fieldscope's eyepiece to capture the observed image. In this method, the shooting focal length is a product of the Fieldscope's magnification and the digital camera's 35mm format equivalent focal length, thereby allowing super-telephoto (close-up) shooting. There is a variety of brackets and attachments available to connect a Nikon Fieldscope eyepiece to a digital camera, making it a breeze to take super-telephoto shots.

Just how close up will these images be with super-telephoto shooting?
You can take close-up pictures from locations even more distant than is possible with regular telephoto shooting using an SLR camera.
Amazingly enough, super-telephoto shooting is possible, allowing you to easily capture close-up images of timid birds, animals and other difficult-to-approach subjects.

Calculation of composite focal length / Calculation of composite F-number

•
Although the theoretical F-number obtained using the calculation above exceeds the camera's F-number, the actual F-number will not.

What are the major attractions of digiscoping?
Digiscoping allows you to capture a full-frame image of a distant bird. Super-telephoto shooting can also be easily performed, capturing detailed images as fine as a single blade of a bird's feather.
You are ready to start digiscoping.
The total weight of the system is approx. 3 kg, freeing you to go into the field without any concerns over weight.
The total cost of the equipment is approximately one-third the cost of a complete super-telephoto system with an SLR camera.

Using the Fieldscope as a telephoto lens for super-telephoto shooting in combination with a digital camera
You can take as many pictures as you want without worrying about film or developing costs.
You can check each image immediately after it is captured and save only those that are successful.

Easy operation
Adjust the focus ring on the Fieldscope while monitoring the subject on the LCD panel, then use your digital camera's AF function to focus the image. These functions are so easy that even a beginner would have no trouble. But be careful not to generate vignetting or vibrations during the image-capturing process.
