Reorganization of Yokohama Plant Yokosuka BranchNikon Corporation newly establishes Yokosuka Plant
March 1, 2012
Nikon Corporation (President: Makoto Kimura, Tokyo, Japan) reorganizes Yokohama Plant and its Yokosuka Branch to newly establishes Yokosuka Plant as of March 1.
The Yokosuka Branch has been manufacturing LCD steppers and scanners since its foundation in October 2004, and as the current production capability in Yokohama Plant is transferred to its branch in Yokosuka, it is reorganized to be Yokosuka Plant.
Nikon Corporation opens the new plant for the first time after the foundation of Mito Plant 21 years ago. Yokosuka Plant is the sixth plant in Nikon Corporation following Ohi Plant, Yokohama Plant, Sagamihara Plant, Kumagaya Plant, and Mito Plant.
Reason of reorganization
Nikon Corporation Board of Directors, which was held on March 5, 2010, has agreed to transfer a part of land in Yokohama Plant to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and decided to relocate some building in response to expropriation requests by MLIT and City of Yokohama who respectively wish to construct the new Route 468 in Yokohama and the Yokohama-Fujisawa town planning road.
In line with the land expropriation above, the current production of LCD steppers and scanners and components/parts for IC steppers and scanners at Yokohama Plant will be transferred to its Yokosuka Branch. When this reallocation is completed, Yokohama Plant will focus on development and production for Instruments Company as well as serving as a development and design center of the LCD steppers and scanners division in Precision Company.
As the capability and scope of production in Yokosuka expand due to this reorganization, the branch is promoted to Yokosuka Plant in an accelerated effort to prepare and implement appropriate management and operation systems.
