Nikon commenced "Reconstruction Supports through the Power of Photography" in full scale to support the long-term reconstruction of areas stricken by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Nikon Corporation formulated the slogan "Reconstruction Supports through the Power of Photography" in a bid to contribute to reconstruction of areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. One of the numerous activities is a project where junior high school students in the affected areas make photo books with pictures taken by them. Furthermore, Nikon has decided to open "Nikon Plaza Sendai" that serves as an operation base of our reconstruction support activities.
Description of reconstruction supports
- Photo book project using pictures taken by junior high school students
Nikon will provide photography classes every year in collaboration with junior high schools in the disaster-stricken areas. Photo books will then be created with selected photographs taken by students and presented to them.
In this fiscal year, this project will be held at three junior high schools which Nikon donated digital cameras, and we are looking forward to expanding the scope of this project in the years to come.
Nikon plans to continue this photo book making activities as a long-term project in cooperation with the Recovery Assistance Media Team of NPO Visual Media Producers Association. - Opening of Nikon Plaza Sendai
Nikon will open this Plaza to exhibit photographs, receive cameras repair requests, and promote reconstruction support projects with NPO's and volunteer organizations.

In addition to the projects above, Nikon plans to exhibit photographs that record the continuous progress of reconstruction in Nikon Salon, send caravans to cheer high school photography clubs in the affected areas, and contribute to CIPA Photo Aid Fund (*). Through these activities, Nikon hopes that the power of photography will encourage the disaster victims and become one of the driving forces toward recovery.

This fund was established by Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) and Nippon Foundation with the purpose of "Connecting the Past and Future through the Power of Photography and Imaging". The fund is intended to support groups such as non-profit organizations (NPO/NGO), volunteer organizations, schools, and local municipalities.
