AA-size battery powered entry-level models that do all the work for simple, enjoyable shooting
Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of two new L-series cameras, the COOLPIX L22 and L21, which make the capture of consistently beautiful images easy and fun.
The COOLPIX L22 and L21 will be available at a more attractive price than their predecessors, the COOLPIX L20 and L19, yet are equipped with new functions including electronic vibration reduction (VR) that make it easy for anyone to take consistently beautiful pictures. The cameras continue to offer a wide variety of shooting features, such as an optimized image processing engine based on EXPEED, Nikon's exclusive image processing concept, a 3.6x optical zoom NIKKOR lens packed with a variety of Nikon's optical technologies, Smart Portrait mode for capturing beautiful portraits, and Easy Auto mode with which the user simply frames a picture and the camera automatically selects the optimum scene mode. The COOLPIX L22 offers a large and clear 3-in. TFT LCD monitor that makes shooting more enjoyable. A primary feature of L-series cameras is their use of readily available AA-size batteries, which not only support hours of use but are extremely convenient as they are readily available anywhere at anytime.

The camera makes capturing beautiful photos simple. By simply framing a subject, the camera analyzes the frame to automatically select the appropriate scene mode.
- A variety of functions that ensure consistently beautiful portraits
In addition to face-priority AF, the camera offers additional advanced functions that make beautiful portraits possible, including a function that automatically releases the shutter when a face it has recognized smiles, the blink proof function and In-Camera Red-Eye Fix.
- 3 features that effectively prevent or reduce blur caused by camera shake and subject movement
In addition to the Motion Detection and Nikon's own BSS (best shot selector) functions, electronic vibration reduction (VR) effectively reduces blur caused by camera shake and subject movement.
- Motion detection:
The camera detects camera shake and subject movement with shooting, and automatically compensates by increasing shutter speed and ISO sensitivity. Blur is reduced to a level equal to a roughly 2-step increase in shutter speed.
- Nikon's own BSS:
The camera automatically shoots up to ten sequential frames and saves the one with the sharpest focus
- Electronic Vibration Reduction (VR):
Digital compensation is applied with image processing to images in which the camera detects blur
- Motion detection:
- Powered by AA-size batteries readily available anywhere
The camera supports alkaline and lithium AA-size batteries that can be purchased anywhere. Batteries that are exhausted while away from home are easily replaced, enabling worry free shooting.
- Compact body with an elegant design and improved operation
Designed to be extremely portable, the camera has a smooth and rounded shape with a high-quality look and feel and elegant finishing. A rotating zoom control is positioned on the top of the camera and buttons on the back of the camera are widely spaced for an improved, more steady grip with shooting. What's more, the shooting mode button and playback button have been positioned on the back of the camera for simple operation.
