Approval of the Nikon takeover bid prospectus by the Belgian Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission ("BFIC")

Tokyo, June 24, 2009 – On June 23, 2009, the BFIC approved the prospectus relating to the takeover bid by NIMD SPRL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nikon Corporation ("Nikon") for all outstanding shares and warrants of Metris NV.

The acceptance period for the takeover bid will start on June 24 2009 and will end on July 22 2009 (inclusive). The prospectus including the acceptance form will be available as from June 24 2009 on the internet websites of Nikon (http://nikon.com/about/ir/index) and Fortis Bank (www.fortisbanking.be/saveandinvest) and can also be requested as from the same date by telephone at no cost at +32 2 4334032 (French) and +32 2 4334031 (Dutch). The results of the takeover bid will be published within five working days following the end of the acceptance period.
