Digital Compact Camera Nikon COOLPIX L12
February 20, 2007
Take pleasing pictures with easy operation and overcome camera shake at a touch.
TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX L12. A quality compact digital camera that combines quality performance with exceptionally easy operation, the COOLPIX L12 also offers the advantage of VR image stabilization that enables even absolute beginners to take sharp and steady shots in unstable conditions.
Offering the full imaging potential of 7.1 effective megapixels, the COOLPIX L12 captures true-to-life color with fine detail that remains even when images are considerably enlarged. The COOLPIX L12 also features a powerful 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens with an ample range of 35-105mm that delivers the compositional potential to capture everything from closely composed portraits to wide-open views.
One of the key advantages of the COOLPIX L12 is its optical lens shift VR ability that overcomes camera shake to produce clearer, steadier images. And because the function remains active as long as the camera is switched on, it produces a sharper image on the LCD that makes it easier to choose the right moment to shoot. The COOLPIX L12 also features a handy Anti-Shake button, too, that activates three features simultaneously for sharper images – lens shift VR, High-Sensitivity mode and BSS (Best Shot Selector).
The COOLPIX L12 takes great pictures in more challenging conditions as well, thanks to high light sensitivity up to ISO 1600. Not only does such sensitivity make it easy to achieve better pictures when shooting with less available light, but it also enables faster shutter speeds that are essential for the capture of fast-moving subjects.
The COOLPIX L12 also boasts three unique Nikon innovations that allow anyone to take better pictures in difficult conditions. Instantly accessible at the touch of a handy One-touch portrait button, they comprise Face-priority AF* that automatically detects and achieves sharp focus on people's faces wherever they are in the frame, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix that can automatically overcome the red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash, and Nikon's D-Lighting that can rescue underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight.
The COOLPIX L12 features an impressive LCD monitor, too. Measuring an ample 2.5 inches across, it enables easy composition and high-quality playback wherever the user happens to be. And taking convenience even further still, the COOLPIX L12 has been specially designed to be compatible with AA-size batteries, which are available virtually everywhere in the world. As a result, users never have to worry about recharging batteries or running out of power while on holiday.
Finally, just like all the other cameras in Nikon's popular COOLPIX range, the L12 comes complete with Nikon's exclusive PictureProject software. Powerful, yet exceptionally easy to use, PictureProject makes it a snap to transfer, organize, edit and share photos with family and friends.
- *Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting conditions.

Nikon COOLPIX L12 Feature Highlights
VR image stabilization corrects camera shake
The COOLPIX L12 offers the advantage of optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction), which cleverly detects any camera shake and accurately compensates for it to produce sharper, steadier images. And because the VR system remains active whenever the camera is on, images also appear more stable on the LCD monitor, making it much easier to judge the right moment to take the shot. The same effect is also available when shooting movies, while a handy Anti-Shake button located on the top panel can be pressed to activate three functions for sharper shooting – VR, High-Sensitivity mode and BSS.
Compatible with AA-size batteries
The COOLPIX L12 is compatible with AA-size batteries, which are widely available around the world. As a result, users can shoot as they like without having to worry about recharging or running out of power on an important day.
One-touch portrait button
A handy standalone button offers direct access to three Nikon innovations that produce more satisfying images – Face-priority AF* that automatically detects and achieves sharp focus on people's faces wherever they are in the frame, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix that can automatically overcome the red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash, and Nikon's D-Lighting that can rescue underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight.
- *Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting conditions.
