Nikon COOLPIX CONNECT

Send images straight from the camera to friends across the world, with Nikon's exciting new service.

TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is proud to announce COOLPIX CONNECT – an exciting service that’s entirely new and completely free of charge, it lets users enjoy photo sharing over the Internet, without the need for computer setup. Surprisingly simple and available with the COOLPIX S7c, COOLPIX CONNECT allows anyone to take a picture, then send it to friends across the world in mere seconds!

Send images through the air

COOLPIX CONNECT is easy to operate. When users have taken a shot they’d love to share with someone anywhere, they simply select the COOLPIX S7c’s wireless Transfer mode. The camera then locates the nearest wireless networks^* and displays a list of the SSIDs (Service Set Identifiers). The user then simply selects their home network and the wireless transfer menu is displayed, from which the user selects “COOLPIX CONNECT”. Or alternatively, if the user chooses to use a T-Mobile HotSpot, wireless detection and setup is done automatically and the user is taken straight to COOLPIX CONNECT.

First-time users of this exciting service are prompted to enter their own email address and name on the LCD, so friends and relatives can recognize where the photos have come from. They are also required to set the camera to recognize their own wireless network, or SSID, and use the WEP (Wireless Equivalent Privacy) encryption key that keeps transmitted data secure. Both of these actions can be done easily on a computer using provided software. The user then simply selects the pictures they want to share – choosing as many as 30 images each time. COOLPIX CONNECT even offers the freedom to select image size, with a choice of print size (1600 x 1200), PC screen or TV screen. From there, it’s easy to input a mail address on the camera screen or select from the in-camera address book that can store up to 30 contacts, then send the images to the COOLPIX CONNECT server. What’s more, despite the service being available completely free of charge, users can upload up to 50MB of images at a time!

View shots from virtually anywhere

Once the images are safely stored in the Nikon COOLPIX CONNECT server, an email is sent to each of the selected addresses. Recipients can then open the mail to see who sent it and to read a brief explanation of the service. Also in the mail are thumbnails for up to 3 of the images, details regarding the number of images sent to the server and the overall size of the data. Most importantly, there’s a URL that the recipient can click to be taken straight to the COOLPIX CONNECT page – allowing the recipient to view the images right away, download them to their own computer or enjoy them as a slideshow. The COOLPIX CONNECT page also features a handy “Thank You Note” button that makes it easy to show appreciation to the sender.
