Nikon D200 Becomes Three-Time Winner with EISA Photo Award; Nikon Capture NX Is Company's First Software Product to Take Home a Major Prize

August 16, 2006

TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (President: Michio Kariya) is pleased to announce that the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) has honored Nikon with prestigious awards for both digital imaging hardware and software. The D200 digital SLR camera was designated European Camera of the Year 2006-2007, and the Nikon's photo finishing software Capture NX was named European Photo Innovation of the Year 2006-2007.
The D200 had already earned the Camera Grand Prix 2006 award from Japan's Camera Press Club, as well as the Best D-SLR Expert Award 2006 from Europe's Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), giving it a total of three major photo industry honors to date. Moreover, Capture NX has become the first Nikon software package to garner an EISA award.

EISA's official announcement included the following comments on the two winning products:

D200: European Camera of the Year 2006 - 2007

The Nikon D200 is a semi-professional DSLR with a 10.2 million-pixel CCD that sets a new standard in this class of camera. The relationship between price and performance is extremely attractive. The Nikon D200 will satisfy both the advanced amateur and the professional photographer in most areas. The balance between noise, sharpness, dynamics and colour reproduction is 100% optimised for professional photography and image processing.

Capture NX / U Point Technology: European Photo Innovation of the Year 2006 - 2007

The U Point Technology by Nik Software, included in Nikon's new imaging software Capture NX, gives photographers unique tools to control colour tone, hue, brightness and contrast. Without the need for any selections or masking, it is now easy to adjust individual colour areas in the picture, as required by the photographer. This powerful technology works with any JPEG, TIFF or NEF (Nikon Electronic Format) image files, allowing useful adjustments such as correction to layers, and leaving the original file untouched. The final results can all be exported in NEF.

The official award ceremony will take place in Berlin, Germany on September 1, 2006.
