Nikon introduces new Laser Rangefinder - LASER 1200S

February 28, 2006

Nikon Vision Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, is proud to announce the release of its newest high-end Laser Rangefinder, the LASER 1200S, enabling superior measurement accuracy over extended distances with simple one-touch operation. Laser Rangefinders emit an infrared laser beam to the target and receive reflected pulses for fast, convenient measurement.

Nikon Vision Co., Ltd. currently markets four other models — the LASER 800S, LASER 500G, LASER 600 and LASER 400 — all widely adopted for leisure applications from golf to marine and other outdoor sports, in addition to simple field and construction site surveys. Among these activities, the golf market has been heating up as a result of revisions to the official golf rules introduced in January 2006, to the effect that " instruments to measure only distance may be used even in professional competition where local rules permit ".

The LASER 1200S is the new flagship model of Nikon's Laser Rangefinder lineup, and features Target Priority Switch System*, with a choice of two measurement modes, depending on your particular target situation. First Target Priority mode is suitable for approach shots or measuring the distance to a pin. Distant Target Priority mode is useful for hunting and simple surveys in a forest or at construction sites. Also, thanks to its large measurement range up to 1,100m/1,200 yd., the LASER 1200S is ideally suited for simple surveys of towers, pylons, utility poles, etc.

Nikon Vision Co., Ltd. will continue to meet the needs of our customers by strengthening the lineup of our ever-popular Laser Rangefinder series.

  • *Target Priority Switch System enables users to choose from First Target Priority mode, which displays the distance to the nearest target, or Distant Target Priority mode, which displays the distance to the farthest target.

Features

  1. Target Priority Switch System

Choose from two measurement modes to match your situation. First Target Priority mode displays the distance to the nearest target — ideal for golf when measuring the distance to a pin. Distant Target Priority mode displays the distance to the farthest target — useful for hunting, at construction sites and for simple surveys.

  2. Superior measurement accuracy

A measurement range of up to 1,100m/1,200 yd. makes the LASER 1200S well suited for hunting asnd simple surveys of forests, towers, utility poles and similar structures. Measurement accuracy is ±0.5m/yd.*

    • *At distances shorter than 20m/22 yd. or greater than 500m/550 yd., ±0.5m/yd. accuracy may not be achieved.
  3. High-performance 7x lens

With 7x magnification, the multilayer-coated lens improves light transmission to provide a sharp, clear view.

  4. Compact, lightweight

Compact in size, and lightweight at approximately 280g, the LASER 1200S offers superb portability. The grip's slim design offers secure, comfortable holding..

  5. Quick and simple operation

Position your target at the center of the reticle, then press a button. Simple one-touch operation gives you instant measurements. Keep the button depressed to continue measuring distances for approximately 20 seconds.

  6. Safe laser employed

Infrared laser beam complies with IEC class 1M laser product rules for safety.*

    • The infrared laser emitted from this product is safe in ordinary use. Note, however, that you should not look into the optics from the objective side using an optical instrument such as a loupe or binoculars. Be sure to read the cautions/warnings in the instruction manual.
  7. Waterproof construction

The LASER 1200S's watertight construction enables it to be used in heavy rain. (Although tested by dipping in water at a depth of 2m for 5 minutes, it is not designed for underwater use.)
