One moment. One world. Nikon Photo Contest International 2004-2005 Call for Entries

June 30, 2004

Nikon Corporation will begin accepting entries for the Nikon Photo Contest International 2004-2005 from September 1st to November 30th, 2004, with "At the heart of the image" as the theme of the contest.

Since 1969, the Nikon Photo Contest International has been held by Nikon Corporation to provide an opportunity for photographers around the world to communicate and to enrich photographic culture for professionals and amateurs alike. Renowned among photo enthusiasts worldwide, the contest has so far attracted more than 1,190,000 photographs from a total of 280,000 photographers, with the last contest receiving entries from as many as 102 different countries.

In July 2003, "At the heart of the image" was introduced as the brand statement by Nikon Imaging Company. Now Nikon has set this statement as the theme for the 30th contest -- Nikon Photo Contest International 2004-2005 -- to actively encourage entries that capture each photographer's emotions.

This time, entrants will be able to submit photographs into two categories -- "Art" and "Documentary." Entries to the art category will be judged on the extent to which they exhibit artistic qualities and convey a fresh sense of creativity. Entries to the documentary category will be judged on the extent to which they communicate the time and the background of the scene and show the magic that exists in daily life.

All works will be judged by professional photographers working internationally and 33 winners will be awarded the Grand Prize and other prizes. A further 20 entrants will also be selected as winners and runners-up for the Emerging Talent Award, which commends those aged under 30 for work that possesses outstanding expressive power, yet has not been awarded a Grand, 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize, and conveys the energy of youth.

Summarized by the slogan, "One moment. One world.", the Nikon Photo Contest International 2004-2005 will embody an opportunity for photographers across borders to express their emotions through images.
