August 19, 2004
TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (President: Teruo Shimamura) is pleased to announce that the D70 has been crowned as the "European Digital SLR Camera of the Year 2004-2005" by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA).
EISA is Europe's largest multimedia editorial organization, with a membership of 50 Audio, Video and Photo magazines from over 18 European countries. Every year a panel of editors and technical writers from the organization's member magazines nominate the best equipment from different categories of audiovisual products released in Europe during the preceding twelve months.
EISA's photo panel praised the D70 for its "astonishing features" and "excellent performance" comparable to more professional D-SLR cameras despite its affordable price and straightforward operation. In its official announcement, EISA states the following reasons for naming the D70 European Digital SLR Camera of the Year 2004-2005. "The Nikon D70 is a very affordable 6 MegaPixel digital SLR camera with an astonishing range of advanced features, yet still easy to use. Combined with an excellent performance in speed and continuous shooting, and with an image quality good enough to satisfy even professional needs, the D70 is attractive for a wide range of users. A sharp 1.8 TFT LCD monitor and a very good battery performance add to the attractive sides. Looked at all round, Nikon has managed to produce a camera that is unusually good value for the money."
The official award ceremony will be held this September during Photokina 2004, the world's largest photo and imaging show, in Cologne, Germany.
The honor of being named European Digital SLR Camera of the Year 2004-2005 adds to an impressive list of prestigious accolades since its introduction in the Spring.
Japan's Camera Press Club selected it the "Camera Grand Prix 2004" award, and TIPA (the Technical Image Press Association) named it "Best D-SLR Consumer Camera in Europe, 2004". In the U.S, the D70 has earned "Editor's Choice" awards from leading specialized publications, including American Photo, PC Magazine, and CNET. Worldwide sales continue to exceed all expectations reflecting strong interest from a variety of customer sectors.
