Nikon, Japan and Trimble, USA agree to establish a joint company

Nikon Corporation (YOSHIDA Shoichiro, Chairman and CEO) in Japan and Trimble Navigation Ltd. (Steven W. Berglund, President and CEO) in USA said today that they have reached an agreement to form a global strategic alliance in surveying instruments by forming a 50/50 joint venture in Japan to be called Nikon-Trimble Co. Ltd.
The main purpose of the joint venture is to further enhance the surveying instruments business of both companies. This will be achieved through the integration of Nikon's variety of advanced optical technology, highly established brand backed by its product quality and strong sales network in Japanese market, coupled with a broad range of products and the worldwide marketing network of Trimble, a world leader in this industry.

Nikon is a leading manufacturer of the optical surveying instruments such as total stations, and Trimble enjoys an outstanding position in its Global Positioning Systems, Robotic total stations and laser surveying instruments. The integration of both companies' product lines will enable the new company to satisfy the wide varied market requirements for high performance products as well as to achieve more effective sales activities through Nikon's sales network in Japan and Trimble's outside Japan.
