NPCI 2002-2003 Call for Entries

Nikon Corporation will begin accepting submissions for the Nikon Photo Contest International (NPCI) 2002-2003 on May 1, 2002.

NPCI is one of the world's largest and most prestigious international photographic contests. It is also one of the most popular, supported avidly by photographic enthusiasts worldwide since its inception in 1969. The primary goal of NPCI is to increase awareness of -- and participation in -- photographic culture, among professionals and amateurs alike.

NPCI 2002-2003 marks the 29th edition of the event. For the first time, we will accept entries from within Japan, and we are fortunate to have the cooperation of Yahoo! JAPAN and the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan (NFUAJ) as we conduct the contest.

In the entry division, Yahoo! JAPAN's contribution to NPCI 2002-2003 enables the submission of Web entries of digital photos sent via the Internet, in addition to the traditional prints and slides.

NPCI 2002-2003 features two themes -- Category A: Free Subject, a standard theme from contests past, and Category B: “Love & Peace”, a theme created and proposed jointly by Nikon and the NFUAJ. We are very excited about the variety of entries this timely and universal theme will inspire. Prints/slides and Web entries will be accepted for both categories.

Furthermore, Nikon will donate US$1.00 to NFUAJ for each entrant. The proceeds will be used to support UNESCO's activities, which include the protection of World Heritage Sites, educational projects and other such undertakings, all aimed at promoting world peace.

With the cooperation of Yahoo! JAPAN and NFUAJ, Nikon is sponsoring NPCI 2002-2003 to extend the reach of the photography and imaging culture, thus making a valuable contribution to society on a global scale. We hope for the participation of as many photographers as possible.
