Basic Technologies

Opto-electronics and precision form the very core of Nikon’s technologies. At the Core Technology Center, we focus on research and development of basic technologies, specifically in the areas of optics, precision measurement and manufacturing, image processing, materials, and software and systems.

Optics

Research themes in this category focus on image formation, optical measurement and optical simulation technologies — all drawing on optics theory as a primary tool. Our unique theoretical approach delivers groundbreaking optics technologies.

Precision Measurement and Manufacturing

These key Nikon technologies enable the development of technologies for interference measurement, aspheric surface measurement, 3D measurement, microscale measurement, shape formation, polishing, grinding, microfabrication and film formation. This work is carried out in synch with other advances in materials, optics and system technologies.

Image Processing

Taking advantage of our optics technologies and the sophisticated applications derived from them, we’re able to continue developing image processing techniques that are unique to Nikon, including key digital camera technologies such as imaging processing advances that enhance image quality, as well as industrial-use image measurement and image recognition technologies.

Materials

In this field, Nikon is developing exclusive, innovative materials that play a vital role in the creation of new optics technologies, while carrying out extensive research and development into materials.

Software and Systems

Our engineers in this category focus on research and development into software and system technologies related to optics, materials and precision processing. These operations are supported by various simulation technologies that help to enhance product quality and shorten the time required for product development. As this process grows increasingly sophisticated, our analyses are further refined, enabling significant progress in the advancement of software and system technologies.
