Contributor’s Profiles

Yasuhiro Hayakawa, Ph.D.

Head of Analytical Science Section,
Center for Conservation Science & Restoration Techniques,
National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo

The Center for Conservation Science & Restoration Techniques investigates and researches Japan’s cultural properties. Dr. Hayakawa conducts investigations and analyses of these valuable items, including those registered as national heirlooms. Using various methods, he examines and measures the elemental makeup of these objects.

Kazuhisa Mitsuda, Ph.D.

Professor, High Energy Astrophysics,
Institute of Space and Astronautical Science,
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency

The Institute of Space and Astronautical Science promotes the study of cosmic science in collaboration with universities, contributing to space development. Dr. Mitsuda’s research focuses on high-energy astrophysics through experiments and observation via satellites. He is currently collaborating with international partners to develop an X-ray spectrometer for the next Japanese X-ray observation satellite, ASTRO-H.

Tetsuya Ishikawa, Dr. Eng.

Director, RIKEN Harima Institute,
Director, RIKEN SPring-8 Center,
RIKEN

The RIKEN Harima Institute and SPring-8 Center open new horizons in science by developing optical technologies with SPring-8 and SACLA. Dr. Ishikawa supervised the beam line construction for SPring-8 and the development of coherent X-ray beam technology for SACLA. Since 2006, he has been a project leader, responsible for the X-ray Free Electron Laser.
