The record-breaking and record-keeping of TOKYO SKYTREE

Nowadays, digital cameras make it possible to take panoramic photographs with ease.
However, the first panorama that took place in Great Britain at the end of the 18th century, used a cylindrical device with a continuous landscape painted on, and some props arranged in front.
The word Panorama was formed by combining the Greek words "pan" (all) and "horama" (view) and the technique it described at the time was crafted to give viewers the illusion that they were witnessing real-life scenes.

Today, Japan is proud to present TOKYO SKYTREE®, the world's tallest* free-standing broadcasting tower to the world.
It has 12 digital SLR cameras installed all the way round its viewing point, 340m above the ground, recording a 360 degree vista of Tokyo.
* TOKYO SKYTREE® was recognized by Guinness World RecordsTM as the world's tallest tower as of November 17, 2011.

The images taken by these cameras are used both inside and outside TOKYO SKYTREE®.
Thanks to these cameras, we can enjoy various panoramic views of Tokyo in a variety of ways.
From capturing that once-in-a-lifetime moment to recording decades of activity - Nikon's cameras are picturing "today" in all kinds of ways, right at this moment.
