Eco revolution after many thousands of years of history of glass

In windows, glasses, TVs, cameras, binoculars...
Glass is surrounding us, unnoticed but ubiquitous like air.
The birth of glass goes back many thousands of years.
The origin of it is believed to be either from Egyptian civilization or from Mesopotamian civilization.

Originally glass was used for ornamental purposes such as beads to decorate pottery with.
Since then, glass has become inseparable from our lives taking numerous forms, including dishes, lenses or stained glasses.
Today, its ecological impact is attracting attention.

Hazardous heavy metals are sometimes used in glass.
In particular, lead and arsenic used to be commonly used in the manufacture of optical glass. In the 1990s we at Nikon regarded this as a serious impact on the environment. This lead us to develop our exclusive Eco-Glass completely free of these harmful substances.

We now use Eco-Glass for almost all of our products, with an exception of a limited range of products with special specifications.
The more familiar products are to you, the more environmentally friendly we want them to be.
Even today Nikon is contemplating a new techniques that we can use to better protect our natural environment.
