Programs for children with the Seattle Mariners
April 4, 2011
Nikon has been conducting a social responsibility program since 2007 in a joint effort with the Seattle Mariners, a Major League Baseball team. The site of the "Mariners-Nikon Social Responsibility Program" is Safeco Field, the team's home stadium. This program is to enable elementary school students in Seattle to experience the enjoyment of watching baseball and taking photographs with digital cameras.
- Equipment Donation:
- COOLPIX digital cameras will be donated to selected schools. Student representatives from each school will be invited to attend a pre-game on-field ceremony. The representatives will be also photographed with Mariners players.
- Invitation to Safeco Field:
- Children from selected schools will be invited to Safeco Field to watch Mariners home games during the season.
Here are some comments from last season's participants.
"This is the first time I ever came to a real baseball game. This view, this excitement and everything, I'll never forget it."
"I'll take photographs of daily activities at school and special events, post them at the school website and use them for year-end slide shows."
In addition, this season the Seattle Mariners and Nikon will conduct a new program, the "Mariners-Nikon Earth Day Program." This program aims to motivate children to think more about how they can better the environment. It includes fun giveaways on Earth Day, on April 22, and a competition that recognizes elementary schools for their green initiatives.
